Dangerously low on resources

  RussWoo 21:29 03 Apr 2003

I run Windows 98se and Word 2000 and have 64mb of RAM. When trying to open it freezes and the only way I can shut down is the start button, ctrl/alt/del gives me the message that my system is dangerously low on resources. I have installed Freemem but it doesn't help. I have followed all the troubleshooting tips in Help. I can open my browser and email app and that's ok, but sometimes just clicking on an icon on my desktop will bring an error message up and even trying to shut down will bring a blank box up.

Go Start then Find (search) and choose Files and Folders. Type in Normal.dot and rename it Normal.old now open word.

Click start, settings, control panel then double click on system.

Click on performance and see what resources are left.

If low,

click start, run and type:

click ok and click on startup.

see if there are any items running in the background.

Try un-ticking all or untick "Load startup Items" in the previous window.

restart machine.

If it works then you need to decide what start up items you wish to keep ticked. just tick the items you want and the reboot again.

Hope this helps.
