Damaged Keyboard

  technophobe1 00:14 18 Jun 2009

i spilt green tea all over my acer aspire 2920 the other night. I let it dry out and it has switched back on. This is very fortunate. The only problem is, however, that my keyboard isn't working prooperly. When i press some of the keys, e.g. l/o/9, all of the characters come up, i.e. lo9. the same happens with a number of characters. Is there anything I can do?

Is it likely to be a problem with the keyboard or the wiring?

How can I go about sorting this at minimum expense?

and clean.
If this is something you would not contemplate take it to a service place.
If it is out of warranty and you fancy having a go
ask some more from those of us that have experience with stripping down a laptop.

absolutely no experience with stripping down a laptop.

would warranty cover a problem like this, especially when it was an accident caused by me?

it is less than a year old, so i think it is still under warranty.

If you have house contents insurance with accidental damage you can claim on that, doesn't matter if the warranty on the laptop has expired or not.

This accident could have actually damaged the motherboard as well. Sorry to put a dampener on the subject. (No Pun Intended!)I would suggest you take it to a local repair shop that specialises in laptop repairs for assessment. They will be able to tell you if the keyboard needs replacing or cleaning and if there is any damage to the other internals. They will probably be able to test the machine with a replacement keyboard. In any event you will need a quote for the work for insurance purposes.

Before making any claim on your insurance ask the insurance company or broker about any excess and most importantly how this claim will affect your future premiums over the next three years. In my experience the increase in premiums over this period can sometimes be more than the cost of a repair at your local dealer.
