I'm running Windows Vista wiht Firefox as my default browser, but IE as the Windows update browser. When I run Coolwebsearch under the Fix option, it says no infections are found. When I just run it under the Scan option if says cws.smartsearch has been found. Norton, Avast antivirus, Spybot SandD, AdAware and Windows Defender don't pick up anything as being wrong.

Anyone any ideas, please?

Thanks for the link, I'll follow it up.

I've just noticed an error in my original post. It's when I run CWShredder, not Coolwebsearch, that I get the two results I describe.

click here Hi might be better downloading HJT from this Forum and then post your log.I did notice that you have 2 anti-Virus programs running it may be a conflict between those two.But better posting your log to be in the safe side.

I wonder if the problem is that CWShredder is incompatible with Vista and so is giving a false positive. The most uptodate download is Sept 2005 and only refers to Windows up to and including XP.
