CRT VS LCD Monitor For Gaming

  whitemeadow 09:15 05 Mar 2006

I am considering purchasing the Mesh X-Treme FX 60 to replace my ageing
Evesham Platinum desktop. This should be a safe option considering the
various awards it has received. My main query is regard to the monitor

My Evesham is equipped with a Iiyama Vision Master Pro 450 A901HT. This is
a 19' CRT monitor with a 0.26mm dot pitch and maximum resolution of 1600 x 1200 at 80 Hz or 1280 x 1024 at 94 Hz.

My experience is that the Vision Master Pro CRT although bulky (not a
problem) produces excellent graphics quality.

The Mesh X-Treme FX 60 standard package includes a 20" Viewsonic VA-2012W
Widescreen. I have heard conflicting views on the quality of the LCD
technology in comparison to the high end CRT for flicker, clarity, and
response for gaming applications.

I would be interested in your views on whether you think the 20" Viewsonic
VA-2012W Widescreen or the Iiyama Vision Master Pro 450 is the best option
for gaming applications. Also, is the Vision Master Pro 450 compatible with
the Mesh X-Treme FX 60 and should I expect a reasonable discount if I
choose to retain my Iiyama monitor.

I have the Iiyama Vision Master Pro 451 19" - which is an excellent monitor.

However I replaced it recently with an Iiyama ProLite E481S 19" TFT.

Overall I would prefer the TFT - it is just as good regarding gaming, but occupies far less desktop space.

I cannot comment on the 20" Viewsonic VA-2012W, but you should get a good discount if you decide to keep your Iiyama Vision Master.

My Mesh came with a 17" relisys crt, fine but nothing spectacular. After a while i upgraded to Iiyama prolite E585s 19" tft. About a week later i connected both, never looked back. So much desk space it's fantastic!

If you've got the room on your desk this surely is the way to go.
