CRT Monitor problem?

I have had a problem with my computer for a while now, periodically the picture on the monitor screen (LG flatron CRT 915) seems to expand very rapidly and the screen goes black about a second later. After varying amounts of time the picture comes back although I sometimes have to turn the machine off and back on again.
I thought I was my grapics card but I changed this and the problem still arises (but less often I think). Is this most likely a monitor problem or could it be something else like the motherboard? Any advice appreciated.

Only suggestion I can think of is to borrow a monitor from a friend and if it works ok then it would suggest your monitors at fault

It's a fault with the EHT voltage to the CRT.
To cure the fault will probably cost more than to replace the monitor. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but tat's life !

thanks for the above, but amonra, if it is a fault with the EHT voltage to the CRT, why didn't this happen before, do you mean the monitor has become faulty
