Crossover connection (or not!)

  Thatslife 16:15 21 Sep 2007

I know nothing about networking and am trying to connect 2 PCs with a crossover cable without much luck.

I'm confused by the talk of subnet and i.p. addresses??

Is there an idiots guide out there anyone knows about?

The PCs have different operating systems. One runs XP the other Vista. Could this be a problem?

You're talking about TCP/IP - you don't need to go into that area. Use the `Create New Connection` wizard in XP to set up PC>PC connection, make sure both machines are given the same workgroup name, in Vista go to Control Panel/Connect To A Network, click Setup a Connection or Network.
