Crosslinked Clusters&Files

I am running Windows98 with a 4gb hard drive, I do not use this computer for the internet but I have run out of memory for no known reason when I had 1.3gb free last week. I ran scandisk in MSdos which informs me I have crosslinked clusters and files, I started correcting this with scandisk but then it ran out of memory. I removed all unnecessary programs but can only get to 20% completion before I again run out of memory. Before formatting the hard drive and starting from scratch any suggestions

Memory (RAM) and hard disk space are two different things; which do you mean?

Cross linked files means that the directory entry for at least two files points to the same cluster. The only way to fix this is to delete the effected files. click here
