Creating a .wav file from a camcorder sound input

Is there an easy way I can use the audio output from my camcorder to create an audio file (eg a .wav file ?). I'm using XP, and use Windows Movie Maker to download from the camcorder.

you should be able to do something with Audacity click here
or to extract from video files use Virtualdub click here
