Dear All,

I wish to create a basic computer network between my PC and laptop.

All i want is a basic network nothing fancy just using a cable

How do i go about this?

Why ask a question if you will not read the answer? All the simple cable connection methods are explained very clearly in the link I gave.

A PC card should read as network interface card (NIC for short). You can get them for around £10 - £15, and the go on the motherboard. Once they are installed you just connect them with the cross over cable. Here are a couple of links for you to read up on networking:
