If you have a different icon at the moment, then:

Right click the icon, select properties, then select Change Icon, and browse to your custom icon.

Select Apply- your customised item should now appear.

Thans for taking the time...

Have tried your suggestion already but the pic i require is not an "icon file" so will not work.

Is there a way to save the pic as an Icon File?

Cheers Kev.

If it's a .bmp file (or whatever), then just rename it to an .ico file.

I have just followed pc moron instuctions. It works but if I can elaborate...
Select picture....right click...send to...desktop (create shortcut).
From the new desktop shortcut...right click...properties...in the 'shortcut tab'...change icon...browse.
Browse to where you saved have your picture (make sure 'all files' is selected in the 'files of type'....double click on your picture...Ok and apply and it should then change the desktop icon to show the picture. It worked for me.
