ive just put togather a new comp asus P5K-VM mobo.intel E2180 cpu and 2GB PC-2 6400 patriot extreme memory.
Everythings fine on the desktop cpu temp is 40 to 65 mobo 42 to 50,Yet as soon as I load a game up(heroes of might and magic 5) it'll run for anything imbetwee 5 and 20 minutes then the screen goes green with lines acroos and the system restarts/I/ve tested the memory thats fine just wondering if its an overheating problem or the graphics card.

What graphics card are you using ?
Did you apply the thermal paste/compound to the cpu ?
Is your psu big enough ?

Have you tried running the games with just one stick of ram and alternate the ram sticks to eliminate this possible cause. This assuming than more than one stick of ram.

What about cooling ?
Any case fans ?
Is the psu fan working ?
is the heatsink working ok ?

Sorry about all the questions, but the answers may well help us help you.

lol here goes ati 1650 graphics,psu520w,thermal paste was already on psu/stock fan,psu fan is working, stock fan for cooling and 2 small case fans both working. How do I know if the heatsink is working?.
I'll try that trick with the ram and see how that goes what do you make of the windows error messages?

Easy way to find out if its heat, Remove the side of the comp, try it like that first. If its ok then it only needs fan at front and back of case, no side fans. If its does not work, try a desk fan turned on pointing at graphics and motherboard, try that.

ive taken the side (top) off no difference haven't got a desktop fan.
Does this mean you think its running too hot?

Personally I would uninstall SP3 and make sure you have the latest patch for the game which is 1.06.

Recommended spec to play is:

- OS: Windows 2000/XP,
- CPU: Pentium 4 / Athlon 2,4 GHz or higher
- RAM: 1024MB or higher
- Video: 256 MB AGP 8x GeForceFX 6600 / RADEON x800 or higher video card
- CD/DVD-ROM speed: 32x
- Dolby Surround 5.1 sound processor

yea i've got Sp3 and the patch its not just this game tho its every one I load up

Download HWMonitor click here and run it. It will tell you your CPU, graphics and HDD temps. Leave it running and start your game but have the monitor on top so you can see the temps.

  mushter 15:39 13 Jun 2008

ive got ASUS pc probe running thats how I know the temps.I keep dropping out of the game and cheking them.
Interesting ive been running the game for about 30mins with the case top on and the temps seem to be quite stable.
One other thing I had a few problems when building so I had to take the mobo and cpu back to the shop for testing(mobo was dead) so I reinstalled mobo and cpu with original heat sinkand thermal paste. Was this a bad move?

  Ditch999 15:42 13 Jun 2008

Yes. You should always reapply new thermal paste after cleaning the CPU and HSF.
What are your graphic card temp like?

  mushter 15:53 13 Jun 2008

right i'm gonna buy a new sink and fan.How can I tell what temp my gpu is running at?
