Crackling noise when playing music - ASUS M2NPV-VM

Hi,

I've noticed a crackling noise with a lot of my music lately, either through WinAMP or Windows Media Player, but not when I play it on my laptop via the network... I've checked my drivers and they seem to be upto date, the motherboard is a ASUS M2PNV-VM, and the Audio chipset is a ADI AD1986A. The drivers i'm using are v5.10.0X.6110. Does anyone have any ideas what causes this?

Update: DriverMax has said that 5.10.1.6480 is the latest driver, so i'm downloading it at the moment. However, DriverMax will download it as its own file, and google only finds 1 site if I search "AD1986A 5.10.1.6480" Does anyone know where I can download the driver from?

It sounds (sorry about the pun) more like a connection problem such as a damaged lead or socket or even using the wrong motherboard/sound card output socket.

You should also check out the Volume Control Panel's settings (double click on the Volume icon) for inadvertently Muted or low output levels (raise sliders).

Windows Media Player also has volume, mute and tone controls - again worth checking out the configuration from View>Enhancements.
