Whwn I open my task manager I notice that explorer.exe accounts for a minimum of 50% of my cpu useage all of the time. Is this normal? If not can I do anything about it. i am using xp with sv pack2, norton internet security suite 2007, and IE6. I have checked and explorer.exe is a windows file and there are no other occurrences of it on my pc.

When you look in Task Manager and explorer.exe shows the cpu usage, can you double check this and post back exactly if in any letters are in upper and lower case.

Mean while explorer.exe can be disguised as a virus, update and run Norton and any other antispyware programs you have click here

Also have a look here click here
Personally i dont like Norton and would never use this again, this could be part of your problem.

I will tick as resolved. I ended up having to do a full factory reset as it would not do anything.
