I currently have a system which I built myself a couple of years ago. I am now in the process of upgrading the CPU.I have sucessfully flashed my bios (a bit scary!) and my motherboard should now recognise my new processor. My question is can I just change over the processor and switch everything on or do you have to do a clean install?I would rather not do a complete re-install of the operating system.
Just pop in the new CPU and you'll be ok. Make sure its running at the speed as advertised. Then you've done it...If its running at different speed go into the BIOS and make the necessary changes.
That should save a stupid amount of backing up of files that I would like to keep.
You do backup your files just in case.
I do back up the important stuff, its just loads of mp3 and game stuff that isn't essential but I wouldn't like to get rid off.
