Hi guys,

currently i'm running a:-

GA-7VAXP Gigabyte mobo
amd athlon xp2200+
768mb ddr ram

I have approx £100 to spend on an upgrade and wondered what to do to get the best increase in performance.
These are my options

1Gb DDR PC3200 DDR400 for £104 (Crucial)

What would you recommend ?

Any other suggestions welcome.

Depends on what you are doing. If you are working with very large vidio files etc. then probably the 1G ram would be an advantage. If not and your present CPU is not fast enough then consider the upgrade. My personal reaction would be 'why isn't it fast enough' - is your system chocked up with a lot of junk that could be removed? Personally I wouln't spend anything until I was sure.

I don't think the new ram option will make much, if any, noticeable difference as you already have plenty for most things, unless you are into video editing. The new cpu would certainly make a very noticeable difference.

memory is fine. I would seriously consider using the £100 for a better graphics card. The processor is no great shakes but probably ok for most new games, however your graphics card certainly isn't. You can get a 6600GT for £100 and get improvements straight away. Then start saving for that cpu!

See click here for a Gainward 6600GT

Good luck.
