CPU upgrade

I have a Duron 800 in my pc and want to up grade the cpu. I have been offered a sh. xp 1700 from some who has upgraded but I have told that it runs at 1100ghz. Should I stay with a Duron and get a Duron 1200 or go for the xp1700? Is the Duron faster or is the xp 1700 slower but can perform in a better way? Which should I up grade to?

I'm told that the 1700 on the xp chip is a sort of equivilent speed as compared to a standard (non xp) athlon chip.
Also duron are a scaled down buget version of the athlon chips.
And finally you will need to check that your motherboard will support the xp chip

I wouldn't bother. If you would like to upgrade your p/c it would be better to just buy a new box (and keep your screen).

Assuming that your P/C motherboard cane take the XP chip - you would still have the limiting factors of your old memory, motherboard etc.
