CPU Upgrade

My wife has a PC with a socket 478 2.6 Celeron fitted.
I have been given a socket 478 Pentium 4 which runs at 2.2 Ghz.
My question is would it be worth swapping processors, and what gain could I expect. The Pc doesn't run anything that is particually demanding.

Not worth the bother IMO

A Pentium4 at the SAME SPEED would probably be a bit faster in some applications due to the improved cache.
But im with Ditch999 not worth the hassle...

I see this thread is ticked as resolved,however;

Ive been rebuilding socket 478's for a couple of years now for under privileged children.

I guess i have to agree with ditch and Mat as i use to upgrade the celeron's to P4's and found a small improvement but not to the extent of the cost of the p4's.

For example if i had a Celeron 1.7GHZ i would then upgrade to a P4 2.0GHZ or higher if possible.

Basically my answer would be,if you have the P4 to hand,its only a 10 minute job and worth a try if you so wish....but the end result will be minimal.

The one I changed had a 2.6 Celeron I changed it to a 2.3 P4 that I had given
