i have just finished building a system for my brother in law. Intel mb and Celeron 2.5ghz CPU I have been running it for the last day and a half(not contiually)to make sure it is ok. I have just loaded XP Service pack two and then I checked the CPU temp using sisandra, to my amazement the temp was 12%Centigrade 50.4 Farenheit. This is the lowest temp I have ever seen on any of my systems, the fan is just a bog standrd CPU fan can this be right? or is sisandra recording a wrong temp somehow. I checked it a few mins ago in the BIOS and it is recording 50C now that is more believable if not a tad hot, now it is 29C it seems to be a bit irratic.

BIOS is the one to check not a software one. this should work with a diode under CPU

Hi woodchip, I agree the BIOS temp is the one to go with I will check it again in a minute.

My AMD Athlon XP 3200+ varies between 50 degrees C and 58 degrees C - AMD CPUs normally run hotter than those from Intel.

However, the maximum figure for the Athlon XP is 85 degrees C and the Bios is set to close it down if it ever reaches 70 degrees C, so I'm perfectly happy with these figures.

My previous Socket 370 PentiumIII 1GB CPU ran at about 35-39 degrees C.

Did another check earlier this evening (before the desire to drink Guinness finally overcame me!) and the Bios and Everest readings are exactly the same.

I have a pretty good idea why...:-)
