CPU suddenly slower

  poidog 17:57 31 Dec 2005

My PC has been running well for over a year. After a 7 day layoff, the CPU is suddenly overwhelmed by tasks it could previously do. It is not connected to the internet at all so this is not an issue of viruses or malware. No new applications or hardware. I have verified the problem on more than one application. Is there any reason the motherboard or CPU should suddenly struggle?

Heat is an obvious first thought.

Get some compressed air and clean the fans and the power supply unit.

If you are sure you have not picked up a virus or spyware then try downloading:

Clear out unnecessary files, clean out registry. Do not touch Duplicate files. Then Defrag, and hopefully it should help?
