cpu speeds and bios settings

hi there this one is starting to drive me up the wall .
i have just installed an ecs k7vta3 version 3.1 mobo alongside an amd 2000 xp cpu and 1 gig of ddram ((pc2700 333mhz ddr dram) o/s is 2k pro
my problem is the cpu on bootup its registering as an athlon 1250 ok its working but not like it should
at this point i have to point out that there are 2 diff jumper settings on mobo for cpu frequency
100 or 133 mhz
if i use the 100 setting everything works but using the cpu as a 1250 athlon
if i set it to 133 (which i understand is correct) the system either freezes or keeps rebooting itself whenever i try to use any programme
i have been to ecs site and e.mailed them for any help /advice but as yet no reply (4 days) i looked through the bios updates and flashed the bios to the most current
nope still the same
any ideas?
oh and before its said it IS running at 1250 its not just reading it wrong and reporting it wrong
i d/loaded something from amd to check it
as a final point if i use the 133 mhz setting on jumper the system does recognise the cpu as a 2000xp
thanks in advance of any help given

Saw your message. Try looking in the bios to enable the processor at the correct speed. Also check your manual again cos' I'm almost sure that there are special rules for the amd xp2000.

I have the MSI K7N2G MoBo running XP2600+ and 1Gig 2700 RAM.

If your jumpers are the same then J10 the 2 pin FSB should be shorted for 133. The J11 3 pin should be pins 1&2 shorted for 133 but if you are having BUS problems then short pins 2&3 for 100FSB - reboot - set BIOS to default mode - shut down - reset J11 to pins 1&2 shorted then reboot, reset your CPU/RAM frequencies to 133/166 and hopefully your CPU should be recognized as XP2000. Take all precautions for static.

Too late - I notice ECS MoBo, sorry still half asleep.
