CPU question

I am making a custom PC for myself and have a little bit of a dilemma.

I am definately getting a 64bit proccessor but Im not sure wether to get an athlon or a dual opteron board. The opterons will have more ram and bandwidth, but the athlon has a higher fsb. Which would be better for gaming? (I know the opterons are meant for servers but I could still use them)

It seems you're after very high specs. See if you can get a Socket 939 Athlon FX and supporting motherboard. The FX is basically the desktop version of the Opterons. Reason for having the new socket 939 (instead of socket 940) is that 939 supports dual channel memory.

Note that versions of Windows for desktop use, as opposed to servers, do not have native support for dual cpus. Your programs and games will also not be able to properly utilise them. Your best bet would be to buy the fastest Athlon FX.
