CPU insufficient for CDR

  Bilbo63 19:38 04 Dec 2004

I've just installed a new CD writer which says that it needs 850 processor or better.

I only have an 800.

The drive can read and play audio discs but will do nothing else (either reading or writing).

Is it possible that the lack of processor speed is causing this problem?

Any help appreciated

I have used cd writers on a P133 so you should be ok... what software are you using to write with?

Tried using Nero but it just aint happening.

Also drive doesn't recognise software discs - seems to think there is nothing on them.

Hi, probably needs more powerfull cpu. A 133 is more powerful than a 800. Wouldn't do any harm to upgrade anyway ....... lol

So what Operating System are you using.

XP Home with SP2. Could that be the root of this?

Try Removing the CD from Device Manager and Reboot so Windows will reload the Read Drivers. For the above right click
My Computer\Properties\Hardware\Device Manager

Technotiger - I meant a Pentium 133mhz - 663 mhz slower than an 800mhz machine! :-)

That was with roxio and a philips cd burner.

You could also try a different Ribbon Cable, is the jumper set correct

My guess is a faulty drive
