CPU Dilemma

Which would be the better buy for my upgrade,
Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 @ £132.00 or
AMD AM2 Athlon 64 6000+ Dual Core @ £140.00.

No serious 'gaming' involved

As long as you realise that each processor requires a different motherboard I personally would go for the Intel. I've always been an AMD fan but from what I've read the Intels give you more bang for your buck.
Hopefully someone can give you a comparison in processing power between the 2 chips so you can make your own mind up.
I think Toms Hardware do one but can't find it at the moment.

Thanks for the suggestions, it seems that both of these cpu's have much to offer and for my computer usage either would be fine but I will visit the site mentioned and do some comparative research. If I thought that the price of Intel Core 2 Duo would reduce further then I might be tempted to wait, on the other hand you can't win on these matters .
