I want to install a new CPU, but i am not sure if it is compatible with my Asus Extreme Striker motherboard. the CPU i wasnt to get is one of the new Intel i7. So is it compatible? and how would i install one. Please note i have never upgraded anything this important, the most i have ever done was install graphics cards/hard drives etc.

Asus Extreme Striker is a socket 775 motherboard.

Intel i7 ,be it socket 1156 or socket 1366 ,are not compatible with your S1E or S2E motherboard.

I have a duel core 2 , 3ghz processor. Is there any point upgrading to another core 2 processor and of so which one? Or should I change the motherboard and get an I7

Your best bet is of course to change the motherboard and get an i7.

But if your main purpose is for better gaming then upgrading the graphic card and adding more rams can work wonder.

The striker extreme is a good overclocker if you know how to then you can get more speed for nothing.

I have 4gb RAM
And a 756mb 8800gtx

I was thinking maybe upgrade to a gtx280 or 480. And ad another 4gb ram. I want to get the nvidia 3d vision. So do you think this is a worthwhile upgrade or do you have something else in mind?

Oh and thanks for all your help

to get Nvidia 3D vision you will need a 250GT or upwards GPU. Your 8800GTX might work but my 8800GT did not despite what Nvidia say.
Bear in mind you also need 3D glasses, and a 120HZ monitor and the pennies mount up. If you want to watch films as opposed to games in 3D you will need Cyberlink Power DVD 10 Ultra MarkII software. The set up is difficult but not impossible to do properly and as I have said on another post 3D Blu-Ray is still a problem for me

The monitor etc. Is not an issue I just want to know what the best upgrade for me would be at the moment.

My computer has started freezing up randomly, requiring me to restart. There is no message or anything, the screen just freezes on whatever I am doing. Why would this be????

I have Windows 7 32bit
Dual core 2 - 3ghz
8800 gtx
4gb ram
