CPU at 100% - scan32.exe

Help.... my Win XP IBM Thinkpad T40 with 512MB RAM is maxing out a lot at 100% CPU and showing all the usual symptoms. I am not doing anything too resource intensive other than normal Outlook 2003 email and browsing. When I look at the processes tab it shows the main culprit to be scan32.exe which is sometimes hogging as much as 80% of CPU.. Can I turn this process off or disable in someway?

Thats your anti virus by the looks of it. What AV do you use?

I use McAfee VirusScan Enterprise 7.1.0
