Counterfeit XP

  tintinuk67 11:43 01 Jan 2009

I have just been given a pc for my children to use & upon downloading some updates from microsoft, i now have a box at logon & on the bottom of the desktop telling me that i have a counterfeit version of XP.
I cannot afford the £96 needed to buy a genuine copy, though i do have a genuine version on my pc.
Is there a way around this or am i just going to have to dump the pc.

rules are 1 copy 1 pc, but i know many people run
2 or 3 pcs in the same house hold,of the same product key

I looked on line and bought an up to date version for my new computer. It cost £66 including VAT, from PC World on line. It came complete with SP3.

Wipe it and use Linux.
