Help!

I have a corrupted file

prefetch.userinit.exe-0743fda9.pf

What is it?

What should I do?

How do you know its corrupt?

messages concerning this file are often to do with spyware.

Please give more information.

I think it may be a Trojan. What symtoms have you got? I think the best thing would be to post a HJT log on this specialised site if you are having problems

The only reason I say it is corrupted is that when i switched on my computer windows (xp) ran a file check.

the result was a corrupted file message.

Other than that I don't know

Try a system file scan, go to Start/Run/type sfc /scannow (Watch the space between sfc and /) hit enter. You will need your XP CD

If it is a prefetch file you can simply delete it - it is not an essential file.

I believe the entire contents of the Windows/Prefetch folder can be safely deleted.

Delete all files in the prefetch folder, Windows will replace them.
