Corrupt Win Socket

  topspur 12:27 23 Sep 2004

I have been unable to log into my blueyonder broadband. Spoke to there helpline and found out that i have a corrupt win socket.
Have been given two ways to rectify problem.
1) go onto click here and download a tool onto floppy/cd and then run on computer this will apparantly correct the socket.
The other way is to do a system restore to before i had the corrupt socket. (I do know the date).
Also on the website there is a manualy way of dealing with the issue. This involves going into registry editor and deleting Winsock and Winsock2!.
My question is,from the above which one would an novice take. Should i go through the regedit? Am i liable to mess my computer up? Would the system restore be the answer.
As ever i appreciate any help.

I have used this click here many times successfully.

Make a System restore point first.
