Core 2 Duo - in simple terms please?

Last May I bought a new 'box' in the midrange of a wide choice offered by Novatech.
Pleased to say that everything still works fine.

The CPU is unknown to Belarc, though Everest does me proud with the following report.

It is an academic point really, but I suppose the old speed terms no longer apply.
Arithmetically a 1200Mhz cpu was twice as fast as one of 600Mhz.

In a word or two, a Core 2 Duo has two CPU's job sharing and when pushed they are more or less churning out work at the sum of their individual speeds?
Or am I dribbling rubbish?

That about covers it, and No it didn't confuse me.
The last sentence says it all after a modicum of more technical stuff.

Any confusion in my mind was the result of searching many less comprehensible sites found using Google.
