If you want to do it in Word use Ctrl+Alt+C

In Word just hold down shift and click on (c) without releasing shift also works for the registered mark and gives you the little TM mark as well!

Surely holding Shift c just gives you a capital letter, however I have discovered that Alt Gr and c, r, or t gives your result.

Just for clarity's sake - your method only works when the NumLock key has been pressed. Lots of people disable NumLock in the BIOS.
