copy/paste and drag/drop problem in 98se

  greybeard 20:04 21 Jul 2009

Running win98se on GA-5AX mobo/AMD 6-2/500 with 128Mb ram and 2Gb hdd.

If I open wordpad, I can create a document that I can save into "my docs".
But I can't then copy/paste it into any other file, nor can I drag and drop files.
Nor can I copy and paste from a cd using windows explorer, though I can run programs from the cd
Also, I can't drag a short cut from the desktop onto the quick launch taskbar.

Any suggestions ?

Sounds like the clipboard isn't working. Install Clipboard viewer and see if anything you cut or copy appears there; click here

with that kind of setup you are limited, it may work by waiting a long time but doubt it. I think you Computer Hardware is very very low spec. As you do not say the size of the Doc, have you tried with a small file copy/paste? You are low power every where you look with regards your computer

You could go to run and type SFC press enter, it may ask for 98cd

"Small is bootiful" sometimes, so I took the coward's way out and did a clean install of 98.
Thanks for your help, and I'll use that method to try getting drivers installed.
I've learnt a lot by the experience.
