Copying video recording from PVR to laptop

  lightfeet 21:51 05 Jan 2008

I am in the process of purchasing a laptop & I am wondering whether it is possible to copy a video recording from a hard drive PVR to the laptop, presumably via a firewire connection, for editing & subsequently burning to a DVD. The laptop I am interested in will have an Intel T5250 dual core processor which I hope will be OK for video editing.
Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks

The answer to that would depend on your PVR & Laptop both having firewire connections ?

if yes then yes

if no then no

you need to find a PVR with firewire or USB2 OUTPUT and then google for entries in forums so you can gauge how well they do what you want

My PVR hasn’t got firewire or USB connection but I solved the problem by using the S Video & A/V connections from the PVR into my JVC JRD-D70EK digital camcorder, then connecting the camcorder to the laptop via a firewire lead. The tape was removed from the camcorder otherwise whatever was on the tape would have been recorded instead of the PVR output. This works extremely well.
Many thanks for both your replies; they got me thinking on the right track
