I have a Sony Vaio and run MS Windows XP Home Edition.

This Sony model has both a CD and a DVD burner / drive but when I insert a blank disk into either drive to burn files My Computer informs that there are 0 files and 0 space on the disk.

When I try to copy files to the drive this brings up a "Problem Copying error message - Windows encountered a problem trying to copy this file" with a Re-entry / Skip / Cancel option.

Only the Cancel option has ny effect.

Suggestions please.

Right click on the rewriter from My Computer>Properties?Recording tab>Enable
recording on this drive.

A good suggestion - but it is already ticked.

Any other ideas?

An additional problem - perhaps related - is that even though there is a CD in Drive G [the CD drive] there is an error message when I left click on it: "Insert disc into Drive G".

Duff disk(s), try one from a different pack.

A silly answer maybe but have you put the CDs in the right way up. This was a mistake of mine many years ago !

" when I insert a blank disk into either drive to burn files "

Is this a cd or dvd.

If a cd,possibly the drive is fussy over what media it will take.I now have systems and two of these are very fussy.

If dvd, could be the same problem.
You do realise if trying to burn to dvd you need some software like Nero/Roxio/Sonic ..etc..XP will not write to dvd's without the burning software.

Is there any exclamation marks against the drives in device manager?
Have you uninstalled any burning software prior to the problem starting?

Windows will not burn to DVDs.

XP uses a version of Roxio for burning purposes.

I thought he was using cd,s,dont think he has stated that he is using dvds.

novis doesn't state either CDs or DVDs, just refers to a blank disk used in either a CD or DVD rewriter, in the original query.
