copy desktop PC's C: drive to a laptop

My main computer is a desktop PC. I would like to "configure" a laptop to be identical to the desktop. I have an external hard drive. Can I simply copy the c: drive from the PC onto the hard drive and then paste into the laptop?

No, the chipset and graphics drivers etc would be different and stop Windows loading, you would also have to change to your Windows key for laptop.

Thanks Zepperlyn that is clear enough.
