cooling issues with ext. hard drives

I need some sort of external hdd and can't decide whether to go for the ready made eg. maxtor one touch or to go for the drive + caddy option. There seem to be some issues around cooling with the caddy but you can get them with fans built in for £3.99 from ebuyer, put this with aMaxtor 6y080poPlus9 80GB ATA drive for £33 and it seems to make sense, ie about half the price. Finally, do the ready made ones need/have cooling fans?

I went for the Caddy plus old spare hard drive option. That way i can upgrade the drive when needed or it dies.

Never had a problem with cooling and it doesn't have a fan in it.

I'm using the Akasa External Enclosure 3.5" Black with High Speed USB 2.0 interface from click here The aluminium body helps disperse the heat.
