I have been given a Windows media File by a friend who has asked me to edit it in Pinnacle Studio 8. I need to import it into the Studio 8 album as an MPEG (or AVI)for Pinnacle to be able to process it. Does anyone know of a good freeware progam that I can use to convert it to an MPEG (or AVI)?

I tried using VirtualDub but it reported an error 'Microsoft owns US patent ...... preventing 3rd party applications extracting data from ASF files. I have since found out that the movie was made using Microsoft Windows Movie Maker.

Has anyone got any ideas on this one, please?

I have now resolved this one. I downloaded MM 2 and exported the file as a DV AVI. I then used a small program that converted the file from type 1 to type 2 AVI and I could then input it into S8.
