convert memory stick to NTFS file system

Hello
I have recently brought a 16Gb memory stick from Novatech, i can write files to the full capacity of the USB stick just fine, and i can delete with no problem.

but i want to copy a single file that is 5.7 Gbytes in size but it says it is full.
I believe it is because of the limitations of the FAT 32 file system that prevents writing a file larger than 4 Gb, but i cannot find a way of converting this stick to NTFS, the format options only give me FAT 32 as the option.
Any ideas?

morris948.

A lot of the flash drives cannot be formatted in anyway, apart from FAT32.

Have you tried compressing the file, through winzip or winrar.?

Yes i tried zipping it, but it did not reduce hardly any, i have found a workaround by using JR split, to cut it into 3 pieces,.

I will try this command later to see if it works on sticks.

The convert FAT to NTFS link above is for a HD not a pen drive. You may not be able to go to NTFS with this syntax. Try and let us know if you succeed. David
