Connection problems

I have a desktop PC and a laptop in the same room abt 8 foot apart, they have been sharing a wireless network for 6 months no problem, but the last week or so evey time the laptop is switched on it fails to "find any networks in the area" the router is postioned by the desktop and has not been moved at all, nor has the desktop or the laptop. I do not have a clue why this is happening and the only thing I can do is turn of the laptop and bootup again, it usually takes abt 3/4 try's before it finds a connection, it is sometimes inconvienient to have to do this, but more to the point I would like to know if there is something I could do to put it right.
