Connection problem - help needed

  johncccc 15:21 13 Mar 2007

My Belkin router (F5D7632-4 ver 1000) worked for 2 yrs until recent Orange "upgrade" of line from 1Mb to synch at 4.6Mb. Exchange now LLU'd. Router will establish connection but drops out after maybe 5 minutes, then never properly re-establishes connection. Connection is now OK on Speedtouch 330 modem, though did initially have problem with that. Have checked line stats - download SNR 7-9db. Am caught between Orange and Belkin helplines - neither seeming to be able to point to way ahead. Any ideas?

If you still getting disconnect problems

Try this

Go into the router setup

Click Internet setting ATM PVC setting will appear

In the first line the router setting, under Configure EDIT in red

Click EDIT and ATM Interface will be display

Is there a Connect Type setting?

Should read Always Connected

Idle Time Set to 0

Save and log out of router

See if this solves your problem

If you can not find setting see if you can find Dial up on connect box and tick

And idle time set to 0

An incompatibilty problem has come to light very recently between routers with particular chipsets and upgraded equipment at the exchanges. This is affecting certain routers, the Belkin 7632 is one of them. This could explain why the connection seems fine with the Speedtouch. Not 100% sure that this is your problem but it seems likely.

Trying a router based on a different chipset could resolve this.

Does anyone know if the same problem will affect the Belkin when I change to Zen next week?
