Can anybody possibly identify the problem I am having here. I have a xp machine that I am trying to connect to the internet. It is hard wired through a router, the router is connecting no problems additionally my ISP can see the router and my computer on the network, however I am unable to connect. I can ping the router but cannot get out onto the Web.

Who provides your broadband? If it's a cable service then rebooting your router with the computer attached may sort this out.

Reboot = Turn off router, wait 5 minutes and then turn it back on.

Have you checked Network Connections to see if it's been disabled?

Why not create a New Connection using the Wizard in Control Panel

PS Connection should be set to Auto Find DNS

How can your ISP 'see' your router and computer when your computer fails to connect to the internet?
Ask them.

Just a suggestion - try going into Control Panel>Internet Options> Connections > Lan Settings > make sure that Proxy server box does NOT have a tick in it.

Good Luck

Another suggestion - try cloning your MAC address in your router settings.
