Hi there, at work there are a couple of spare cables out of the router and the boss has said I can hook up my laptop. It assigns an IP address and appears to be connected, but I cannot connect to the internet. Has anyone any ideas as to what is holding me out.
Any info would be great.
Thanks

Does your work network use a proxy server to access the Internet? Ask your IT chaps and put the settings in. In IE go to 'Tools' 'Internet Options' and click on the 'Connection' tab then the 'LAN settings button. the you will then see where to put in the details of your proxy server.

Thanks for the reply, the IT guys dont come down that often. Can I get those settings from one of the desktop PCs.

You need to be able to look in the Router Settings for info to see why you cannot get through. It may be the firewall that's stopping you

You could try by putting the address in to IE Browser. Like 192.168.0.1 or similar keeping the first numbers just change the last to to try like change 0 for 1 etc

I have already tried that; could not get it right.
