Sleep in Vista caused many problems, seemingly caused by hardware/driver/software conflicts. It was one of the main "whinges" of Vista. Are you fully patched and up to date SP1 SP2 etc. Perhaps check with the notebook manufacturer for updated drivers etc and google "Vista sleep and your laptop model" There were also "hotfixes" for sleep problems. You could look in device manager under the wireless card and under power management uncheck the box "allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" and just see what happens. Not suggesting leave it like that, but try sleep and see if it's "fixed" the issue.
