Connect real-time audio from Win7 laptop to XP pc

How can I connect the real time audio output (audio stream) from a DAW on my Win7 laptop to a DAW on my XP pc? I do not refer to transferring .wav or .mp3 or .aiff etc. audio files from one computer to the other, I can already do that. I have a LAN installed, the two machines see and talk to each other. What I think I need is for the DAW on Win7 to be able to see the LAN as a legitimate audio output, and the DAW on the XP to see the LAN as a legitimate audio input.
This will allow me to use newer Win7 audio software in my principle XP environment. The real time audio transfer will allow me to at least record the incoming audio in the XP DAW, and also fine tune the audio both from the Win7 side as well as through the many VST plug-ins installed on the XP side.

One other approach would be for the Win7 DAW to access the ASIO drivers on the XP system via the LAN. Either way would be acceptable. All suggestions welcomed.
