confused on hard drive interfaces

  ian-inhome 14:35 13 Mar 2008

The hard drive in my laptop has failed. The drive is a Fujitsu MHT2040AT click here

This is listed on the Fujitsu site as interface ata-6
Looking for a replacement drives they are listed as pata or sata or ide . I was looking at a HITACHI Series Travelstar 5K160 Model HTS541612J9AT00 0A28418 Interface: ATA-6 (160GB: ATA-7) the drive is physically the same size but I am confused by the differences in interface. Is a ata-6 compatible with ata-7?

Thanks for the reply it seems that ATA6 = ATA133 (PATA only) ATA7 = ATA150 (SATA only)
Yet the spec for the drive I looked at said "Interface: ATA-6 (160GB: ATA-7)" how can 1 drive be listed as pata & sata?

As confused as ever
looking on the pc world site they say # 120GB Internal Hard Disk Drive
# PATA (ATA-7) Interface
# 2.5" for Laptops

the previous site says "ATA7 = ATA150 (SATA only)"

The 5K160 comes in both PATA and SATA. The PATA is ATA-7 and will be fine on your machine click here$file/5K160_FINAL_DS.pdf Just make sure you order that interface.

Many thanks paul£
Just to confirm then an ata-7 will fit as a direct replacement for an ata-6
