Hi, this might sound silly, but, have you got usb peripherals connected? If you have, disconnect them all and then try to boot up again. I had a similar problem once and quite by chance I discovered this worked for me. After mine started ok, I was able to reconnect all my usb items without any problems. I experiment quite a lot, and this answer has come to my own aid at least twice - and worked for me each time.

Or - possibly norton might be the culprit.

Good luck anyway ... Cheers.

Try resetting the Router - simply disconnect Power from Router, wait ten seconds and then re-connect power.

The MBR on the hard drive is corrupt. With it keep booting.

The Stop 0x24 message indicates that a problem occurred within Ntfs.sys, the driver file that allows the system to read and write to NTFS file system drives.

1. Boot from XP CD into recovery consul
2. At the command prompt type:

chkdsk drive: /f

can i reinstall windows and keep all my folders or info or not

also when i run chkdsk in f promt it says that 1 or more are corrupt, does that mean the hard drive is knackered.

No it does not mean the drive as had it. What you need to do is start with the XP CD and use it to Repair the MBR. With the command from the Prompt

FIX /MBR then rerun scandisk.

If it will not go into windows you can use XP CD to repair XP, this will leave all you folders etc. But you will have to download all XP updates again

what do i need to type in to fix the mbr and have got to the command prompt but do i need to type in fix/mbr with c: or f: promt
have tried both but the command is not recognized.

or should i just reinstall windows

C:\FIX /MBR note the gap before /
