My desktop computer when switched on goes to a black screen with different options.
1. safe mode mode with networking and a few other which i forget.
it dosent matter which option i choose as it goes onto the windows xp screen and it all appears normal but it then returns to the black screen mentioned above.
Any ideas please?

Try Last Known Good Configuration

To start your computer by using the Last Known Good Configuration feature, follow these steps:
Start your computer. press the F8 key.
When the Windows Advanced Options menu appears, use the ARROW keys to select Last Known Good Configuration (your most recent settings that worked), and then press ENTER.
If you are running other operating systems on your computer, use the ARROW keys to select Microsoft Windows XP, and then press ENTER.
