Computer will not boot

  Beardie 20:23 21 Jun 2007

My Acer computer running XP suddenly refused to boot up. If I leave it for a few minutes then power up, it starts on the Acer page that says f12 for bios. If I click f12 it enters the bios but then freezes. Other times it will go to the safe mode page and then freeze, any suggestions to why or how to fix

This has the tell tale signs of the motherboard packing up or hard disk failure.

Fixing may need some hands-on...

As above or psu failure or even fans clogged with dust.

Time for a service to those fans !!

Sounds like it is struggling to read the HDD and therefore asking you to go into BIOS to set the HDD.

If Bios is strugglimg to read HDD then this may cause BIOS freeze.

Try a simple remove and refit of drive. If you can get it to boot , back up all your docs of drive and rub some drive checks and defrag.
