I thought I could improve my old laptop's performance by formating and clean install of XP.But the reality is that since I have done so it keeps locking up (using Firefox) so that the only way to clear it is to hold the on button down until it quits. It only has 12Gb hard drive 542Mhz processor and Ram of 256Mbs, so I increased the virtual memory up to 1500.But it still does it which was not a problem I had before?!Any answers?
Look in Device Manager to check you have all the correct drivers loaded
Thanks woodchip, a very good idea and I see where you are coming from. However before I could check when I turned on the laptop this morning, I had a message saying the 'wifi signal was very low and probably meant no connection was possible'.I changed the socket the Wireless PC Card was plugged into, installed the same driver as before - and touch wood have had no lockup problems since.Could this really have been the issue?
Could have, PCs are funny things some times
Problem is back again this morning, particularly using Firefox. In view of recent Firefox updates has anyone else had the same experiences?
Try connecting the laptop to a router via a network cable and see if your problem occurs. It might be your adapter or the slot you are using or a motherboard fault.
