Computer keeps failing/crashing.. Help!!

Hello, I was wondering if anybody could help me with a problem I have with my computer? I got my PC built for me by my Uncle who is an IT Tech at a local college. It cost my parents a lot of money and for no reason it keeps crashing on me, the keyboard, mouse and monitor fails for no apparent reason. I could be quite happily playing a game or general social websites such as facebook etc. And it'll just stop working. It usually does this about 3-4 times a day. My Uncle said it will most likely be a software problem rather than a hardware problem, I am currently using Windows Vista as my OS and I always update whenever there is a new update available, I was just wondering if anybody could give me a second oppinion/solution?

He is probably right. But it could be difficult to track down. Trial and error.

Run a full AV scan and a "Malwarebytes scan".
Make sure you are not overheating ("Speedfan")

Start/Run 'msconfig"

"WinPatrol" also lets you do similar. More options.

- wait for more responses here
- badger your Uncle to come and fix it?
Cost you dinner and beers?

Did he leave you a Vista setup disc?

Repair download disc is here. It is not an OS install disc.

Don't do any recovery/reformat if you haven't got everything backed up elsewhere. Just repair.

"downloads" mentioned can be found at downloads.cnet.com, just type in the search box

Oh and check device manager for anything with yellow exclamation marks

What do you mean stops working?

Picture still on screen everything "frozen" no response from mouse / keyboard?

Monitor goes off / PC shuts down?

Yes, the computer freezes, the picture stays on screen, I have no response from my keyboard or mouse and if I'm playing music at the same time the song freezes and makes a horrible noise. All of the lights on my tower stay on, the fans are still spinning on it, (I have two big fans) it's a cooler master tower so I don't see it being overheating..

FReeezing PC

1. Overheat due to faulty / blocked fans

2. PSU voltages

3. Household power surges fridge etc switching on/off

4. faulty memory stick try memtest click here

5. virus or spyware scan for both especially if shutting down with in a few minutes of switch on or internet use

6. driver conflicts especially grahics cards get the latest drivers for your equipment
