computer for games

I'm after a computer partly for the general stuff ie.internet access, digital camera use,and also as a gaming p.c. to play games at an enjoyable standard. I won't be storing files of data for use, just maybe some music. Also would want to play/copy CD's,and play DVD's.There's so many differant systems available I'm a bit confused at what would meet my specific needs, without going over the top paying for stuff I won't need or use.I have no home computer at present (my last was a ZX Spectrum 20 years ago!!!) Can anyone please suggest what I'm after?

Absolutely....but more information from you will help a lot.

What kind of games do you play (fps games like Crysis, WoW, sims etc)?
Are you a big multitasker?
How long do you intend keepng the PC?
Are upgrades in the future a possibility?

Max budget?
Does this need to include monitor, keyboard, mouse or any other peripheral devices?
Do you need an operatng system?
